The Department of Biotechnology was established in 1996. So far there are 17 faculty members, among which professors & associate professors account for 14. And 2 were elected as “Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents” of the national project, 1 was elected as “National Distinguished Young Scientist” by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 was elected into “Special Support Program for National High-level Personnel”, 1 was elected into “Special Support Program for Shandong High-level Personnel”, and 2 were elected as “Taishan Scholar Distinguished Professor ”.

The Department of Biotechnology aims to solve problems in plant reproductive development and the molecular & cellular mechanisms responding to various stress, mechanisms of organ development and neurogenesis in drosophila，molecular plant virology, plant resistant gene engineering, cloning and functional analysis of plant stress responsive genes, isolation & purification & structural identification of natural products such as proteins. Since its establishment, the faculty members have been elected into over 30 national and provincial projects, such as “National 973 Project”, “ National Major Project for the Cultivation of New Varieties of Genetically Modified Organisms”, “Shandong Distinguished Young Scientist” from Natural Science Foundation of Shandong, and published more than 70 scientific research papers in journals such as PNAS, The Plant Cell, The Plant Journal, Plant Physiology, and Developmental Cell.

Faculty members in Department of Biotechnology teach the courses of “Cell Biology”, “Agricultural Biotechnology”, “Cell Engineering”, “Modern Instrumental Analysis”, “Animal Biochemistry”, “Developmental Biology”, “Genomics”, as well as a series of experimental courses corresponding to the theoretical ones. In recent years, the faculty members have undertaken 5 “provincial teaching quality projects & education reform project”, 1 “Provincial Excellent Course”, edited 4 national-level textbooks, and were awarded 2 “Provincial Excellent Teaching Achievement” and 3 teaching awards from Shandong Agricultural University, and published 10 scientific teaching papers in scientific journals.
